A Day Full of Drama!

Our Trip to Bremen

(Maya Alghawi, Zozan Omar, Emine Kuran, Beyza Nur Meric) On February 25, 2025, all three 11th-grade classes went on an exciting trip to Bremen.

Early in the morning, we gathered together, full of anticipation, and set off on our journey. Not everyone came along, only those who wanted to from the three classes, joined.

Shakespeare Like Never Before

We met in Leer and took the train to Bremen. There, we had some free time, and then we went to the Shakespeare Company by bus or tram. The workshop lasted about 90 minutes. We had to choose between two workshops, acting or speaking, depending on which one we were interested in.

The workshops were led by professional actors from the Bremer Shakespeare Company.

The goal? To experience Shakespeare in a whole new way and improve our English skills at the same time!

The first workshop focused on language and acting. Through interactive exercises and playful drama techniques, we explored Shakespeare's plays while also practicing our speaking skills. At first, it felt a little strange to act in English, but soon, everyone got into it some of us even discovered hidden acting talents!

The second workshop took a different approach. Here, we improved our English through creative exercises but without acting. We started by introducing ourselves (name, age, etc.) and then played a fun warm-up game that had everyone laughing. One particularly amusing task involved a communication challenge: One student had to strike a pose, another had to describe it in English to a third person who had their eyes closed. The results? Pure chaos! But also a great test of our English skills!

Creating Our Own Plays

The highlight of the day was when we got to write and perform our own short plays. Each group had to pick a setting, a character, and two lines: a starting sentence and a closing sentence.

Then, we let our creativity run wild! The final performances were hilarious, and trying to guess the setting and characters of each play made it even more entertaining.

After all the workshops, we had some free time to explore Bremen, grab some food, and relax. Eventually, we met up again and headed back home to Aurich.

Overall, the trip was an unforgettable experience. It was a great way to break out of our comfort zones, boost our confidence, and improve our English in a fun and interactive way.

Plus, who knew Shakespeare could be this entertaining?

At last we want to say 'thank you very much' to the Förderkreis of the IGS Aurich, who helped to pay for the workshops.
